Nurse Practitioner Preceptor Needed - South Florida

Updated:   Published

Hello NP's,

I am a FNP student currently attending an online program through Indiana State University. I am trying to locate NP preceptors in the South Florida area, preferably close to Coral Springs, although any part of Broward County or South Palm Beach County is acceptable. I need a preceptor or preceptors starting in the Spring (January 2012) in any of the following areas: pediatrics, family practice/internal medicine/general medicine, etc., OB/GYN. Unfortunately, due to the fact that I am located near several universities that have contracts with offices in or near my area, it has been very difficult to find preceptors willing to take me on as a student. My school allows NP, MD, DO, and PA preceptors, although I prefer NP's, but am willing to work with any. A little about me: I have been a nurse for 5 years, working in both adult and pediatric critical care over those 5 years. I graduated from Santa Fe Community College with my ASN and University of Central Florida with my BSN. I am very motivated and hardworking. Any information anyone can provide is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

BrookieRN :nurse:

I just graduated from down there and wish I had names for you. Since many of the bigger schools are in Miami, most students have preceptors in Miami area. So you should be able to find more preceptors willing to take you on in Broward County. I wish I could give you names, but my school would be very mad at me for giving out any names they have on their list. I would just try to call any and everyone. Maybe call Broward General or Plantation General (or other hospitals in that area) and ask their HR if they can be of any assistance. Or look on the hospitals website to get a list of doctors names and numbers and call them that way. Ask to speak to the office manager of the clinic and see if they can help you out. I wish you luck and you are coming down during the nice time of the year :)

Hi,

Thanks for the info. I signed up for the ENP network, but do not see where I can post that I am looking for a preceptor. I only see where you can find preceptors. Do you know where I can post this info?

Thanks,

BrookieRN :)

(P.S. I am already a resident of South Florida and have been for most of my life! I am just attending Indiana State University as it is an online program that worked better with my schedule and have never actually been to Indiana!)

I guess you can only see the preceptors. I thought you could post that you needed one.

Hi BrookieRN!

I noticed that this post is from 2011, but I am currently searching for NP preceptors in the South Florida area and I have had absolutely no luck. My first clinical (peds) starts on January 9th so I am freaking out! Wondering if you were able to find your preceptors and perhaps have some NPs or MDs that are willing to precept.

Your help would greatly be appreciated!

What school do you attend and where do you work? I may have some connections for you but it was extremely hard for me. Had to keep calling around and sending my résumé. It was awful.

Thanks for replying! I am currently enrolled at Barry University however, I'm not working at the moment. I've been calling around and nothing shows up so I totally understand you. I'll accept any help you throw my way :) How did you like your rotations?

HI guys!

I live in south Florida too...Broward county...and I am having a very difficult time finding a preceptor for my class that starts in May. I have called and emailed so many places and I am not having any luck. I also signed up with ENP Network a received no replies. I'm also on a Facebook page to help connect preceptors and students and also got no replies.

I am in the FNP program at South University. The first clinical rotation is Physical Assessments, it's 11 weeks long and I need 60 hours. The second rotation is Adult & Geri, it's 11 weeks long and I need 180 hours. It can be in an urgent care setting or in a family practice setting and I can precept with a physician or an NP. My nursing background is ER and psych.

If either of you are still in the area and have any contacts or are willing to by my preceptor, I would greatly appreciate any help!

Thanks!
