Nurse in need of direction!

Hello all. 3 weeks ago, I started a GN residency program at the hospital I have been an employee of for 4 years (my nursing school career). The residency program has been incredible- from the preceptorship to the managers to the patients. Last week, however, I feel as though all of that came crumbling down when I failed the NCLEX. I took all 265 questions and was an absolute wreck by the time I was finished. Luckily, I am able to hold on to my residency program, it will just be postponed until I pass boards. But now, I feel lost. I don't know where and how to start my life and study regimen back up and do what it takes to pass boards. I was basically doing 50-100 questions/day from my Kaplan Q-trainer. I own Saunders and I am willing to pay and study whatever it takes to pass NCLEX the second time around and never have to think about it ever again can anyone offer any assistance or help on test-taking strategies, what to study/how to study, etc.? Any input would be very helpful. Thanks in advance!

Hey Amg2185! I'm so sorry you didn't pass the first time around and I understand its tough to put your life on hold, but don't lose hope! I would recommend doing the national council of state boards of nursing's nclex review (ncsbn). They are the ones who write the exam after all. I found it extremely helpful when I was studying, and it covered way more than Kaplan.

Best of luck :)

Hi,

I am sorry you didn't pass. I know it's crushing. I just want you to know that I went through the same thing. I got 265 questions, I left the test site a wreck, I did Kaplan questions 100-150 a day and was scoring in the right range, and had to call my nurse recruiter and postpone my residency because I didn't pass. I cried for 2 days. But I realized where I went wrong. picked muself up and gave myself a pep. came on this site and read so many stories of those who passed the second time. :) they are my inspiration. i am doing the hurst review right now and so far it's been great and after I watch a hurst video I read about it in Saunders and do the questions in Saunders that correlate to what I watched and read. Once I'm done with hurst I'm going to the NCSBN 3 week course and focus on their questions. Also I have the PDA book which has been super helpful. I test next month but this time I'm feeling more confident and better prepared. My advice to you is everyone learns differently I took people's advice about doing a bunch of questions that didn't work. I didn't realize that I need to brush up on content first then do questions. I did an accelerated BSN and was done in 11 months and didn't realize how much pertinent information I didn't grasp. I wish you all the best don't lose hope. You've got this and you will be successful :)

Thank you both so much for your tips and encouragement. I agree that confidence is key and I should probably brush up on a few things. Thanks again and I will keep you both in my prayers!
