Nurse Fellowship Program

Published

I need some help understanding the Nurse Fellowship program at Wake Med. I applied online for several of the positions. The positions were just posted on August 15 and I applied to them on the 21st. I have already received the thank you, but no thank you rejection email from two of them. :crying2: The puzzling part of this is that they do not have my transcripts yet, so they do not know what sort of student I have been and they have not received my recommendation forms either. On what could they be basing their decision and how could they make one so soon?

I am not sure if this will help but I will tell you my experience with WakeMed. I completed a 3 month 40 hour a week unpaid internship for my first degree there. I went on to work prn while I took pre-reqs at WakeTech. This was back in 2004-2005. I applied for the fellowship program in November of 2007 when I was set to graduate in May of 2008. I applied for a few fellowship positions and was contacted by one unit right away by phone. An interview was set up for weeks later b/c I was still in school in Charlotte. I got the job after the first interview. Here's the thing though...all of my references were listed on the online application and they were all employees of WakeMed who still worked there and had worked there for quite some time. As for my transcripts from school, they did not ask for them. My letters of recommendation from instructors I brought with me to the interview but they didn't really seem to care one way or the other. What I am trying to say is that it may be a case of 'who you know' and if you've worked there before as far as preference. But that's just my theory. Unfortunately, through a wild chain of events I wound not being able to take the position. Definitely don't give up though- contact the nursing recruiters, they are all really nice. Go to their open houses too if you can. Hope some of this helps.

Thank you for the input.:) It seems that getting a position in Raleigh is going to be even more difficult when I am doing it from Florida.:banghead: I was planning to do my first year here, but circumstances have changed and I really want to move after graduation. I am not sure what more I can do, when I am not close enough to see the nurse managers in person.

Specializes in ICU.

Don't be discouraged. There are new jobs opening up at Wake Med frequently because of all the expansion they are doing. Keep in touch with the recruiters. Good luck! You'll love NC.
