Number Crunch

Hi All,

Just received a job offer. This would be my first travel assignment. For dialysis RN in Minnesota. Can you please have a look at the numbers and tell me what you think:

Compensation:

$20/hour

$250 for food

$300 for housing

$50 for the use if your vehicle

$2,380 in travel reimbursements split between your first and last check

I'm from Canada, so the exchange would be beneficial at the moment in any case.

Thanks for your responses.

Does $300/week seem low for housing?

300/week is low...I'd ask them to do better on that AND give you 280 for meals. 280 is standard for meals weekly. You should be able to squeeze more out of the housing. 1200 a month is on the bottom end in the US. I don't know what the average is for MN but ask for more. The first offer they throw at you isn't their best by any means. MN appears to have a fairly low cost of living but its not that low.

...oh, and there are a lot of good agencies and bad ones. But there are also good recruiters and bad recruiters. My best advice is find a traveler who has a good recruiter already to save you the trouble of having to sift through bad ones.

Very good travel allowance. The housing allowence depends on the area. I have a wonderful recruiter. You can PM me. I've been with my recruiter/agency for 3 years.
