In Kentucky, once u have your NPI #, do you have to get a medicaid or medicare number too?
Thank you for any assistance!!

When the NPI was implemented, it was meant to replace all the other health care provider numeric identifiers including Medicare and Medicaid numbers. Even private insurers are using NPI numbers.
Thank you Juan, so that means, NPI is the only one u need??... that is what I was thinking but wasn't quite sure!!

Is this rule valid only in KY, or in other states too (I live in MD)?
Thanks
Medicare is a Federal program. Medicaid programs are state-funded by the individual states but are also administered by CMS or Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. CMS no longer accepts applications for separate provider numbers for Medicare and Medicaid. It's all simplified by the NPI number.
