I am struggling with a tough decision. I will graduate in July with my BSN after having worked as an RN for eleven years. I have always been interested in pursuing my MSN family NP degree and am scheduled to start a program in the fall. Lately though, I have started to think maybe I should look into nursing informatics instead. I realize these are two very different fields of nursing but I am torn.
On one hand I enjoy the clinical aspect of nursing..learning and helping treat different medical conditions, the increased autonomy, and the pay is good. I also enjoy patient and family interaction but theres days where patients/families make me want to have a job with zero patient interaction. I like technology and computers, i think theres a good earning potential in NI and i feel like it might be less stressful and less liability. Anyone have any advice? Had anyone become an FNP and decided to switch to informatics. I am having trouble making a decision. Please help!

I think you make a compelling personal case for Informatics. Because I never realized how much the 'drama' affected me until I left the bedside.
