NP Salary

"From the postings I've read about NP salary, I've gathered the following impression:

IN GENERAL:

New Grad NP Salary > New Grad RN Salary -YES

New Grad NP Salary

Experienced NP Salary > Experienced RN Salary -It depends

I'll answer based on what I've seen. I don't know how comprehensive my perspective is:

I was an ER nurse, many nurses w/ me made over 100K a year, ditto cath lab, ICU and traveller nurses.

Many FNP's make less than 100K a year -depending on work environment, hours, overtime etc.

Too many variables. The AANP, ANCC and others have salary data/research to demonstrate the variables, mostly with region of the country and specialty.

In middle Tennessee, expect $65-80K to start, production will get you well over $100K. Part-time, expect $50/hr. North/West higher than South/East, Metro > rural, Group > partner MD, clinical > academic, same as housing market (surprise, surprise). Lots of variability.

Just wondering and not trying to be snarky here, but is that 100K+ salary per year for a staff nurse who doesn't have to work any evenings/nights, weekends, holidays and not much more than 40 hours per week? If yes, then I find that pretty amazing. I know of a few fellow ER staff nurses who have pulled in similar salaries; however, they typically work the weekend night program and tend to pick up additional overnight hours during the week to total upwards of 60+ hours per week. That is the only way I can see experienced RN salaries being greater than experienced NP salaries.

Right now you can find agencies looking for ER staff nurses for $44.00 an hour w/ one -(yes one) year experience, for San Antonio -the city where I was working. This does not include weekend differentials, or holiday pay. Keep in mind, this is for a 6 mo. contract. This translates into 88K a year for your 3 shifts a week -add some mild overtime and you will find that equates to $100K + pretty easy. Of course, this includes every other weekend w/ differentials, not sure if day or nite? though I do know several nurses working day ER who made over $100K a year -but yes weekends and overtime are involved here for most of them. Every FT nurse in my ER worked every other weekend.

I understand traveler ICU nurses have a going rate of up to $60 an hour? Hearsay, I have never seen this myself, but I have heard it over and over?

During season (mostly), I know of nurses, who were good negotiators. They were asking for and getting daily bonus + Bid Shift + their hourly pay -it adds up pretty quick -if you are a good nurse, a great negogiator, and available.

I am also currently seeing an ad for a FT hem/onc NP $34-$38 an hour FT -not sure of the benefits? but that trranslates into $68 - $76K a year, also for San Antonio.

Hence my answer, FT nurses can easliy make more than FT FNP's depending on position, experience, etc...

I think it totally depends!! Where you work, what you do etc. As an ICU nurse, with 3years experience I make $26/hr. Mind you this is in Detroit..big hospital...now, I also work in an OP surgery center, in the suburbs, and I make $36/hr. I am contingent at both places...most ACNPs in this area make $80-120K/yr. Their hours, weekends and benefits affect their pay...so see, it depends...
