Not Sure?!?!?!

Ok so I'm looking to start nursing school next Aug, or at least heading to that path. I feel overwhelmed trying to figure out how to get from point A to point B. Any suggestions on preparation to getting in to a nursing school? I've been out of High School for two years and I graduated with a 2.1 GPA. I'm not the smartest kid, but I know I want to help people and to me this is the most logical choice. So any advise or tips or anything would be great thanks.

Do you know which schools you are interested in attending? Have you taken your prereq courses yet? If not find out the prerequisites for the program(s) you plan to apply to and sign up at your local community college. You'll probably need to take at least anatomy and physiology I to apply to nursing school - however a lot of programs require A&P I & II. Most two year nursing programs also want to see h.s. level algebra and chemistry with a min grade of C. If you don't have one or the other on your h.s. transcript then you will also need to take that along with your other prereqs. You might want to start slow with just one or two courses to get your feet wet before you pile more courses. And you probably want to space your science courses out so that you take one per semester. Your college will probably have tutors at no extra charge so use them if you need them. Also keep in mind that many nursing schools have competitive admission so it's up to you to get the best grades you can in your prereqs. You don't necessarily have to be a straight A student but your gpa should show that you put in an effort.

1) Find out what schools near you offer the program you are interested in

2) Find out what the pre-requisites are

3) Don't rush things! If you want it bad enough, it will happen. Give your all in every pre-req you complete. Definitely space your sciences out, if you overwhelm yourself with sciences, sometimes it gets to be too much to handle!!

Remember that you can always talk to a counselor and they can point you in the right direction

Dont feel bad, I wasnt a very good student in high school. Lucky to get C's, but I found that when I took nursing classes (something that interested me) my grades improved dramatically. My advice is to find out what its going to take to get into the nursing program you want. Make a list of classes and volunteer hours or whatever else you need to get in and then just start chipping away at it. Good luck
