No More Gateway LPN Program??

I will Gateway call tomorrow.....

my advisor also told me that they are no longer going to offer the lpn opt out option for those in the AAS in nursing either....you used to be able to apply for your lpn license after the end of the second semester after doing a capstone.....she said they will no longer offer this due to a lack of interest

I just talked to Betty in advisement....they are still offering the LPN...nothing has changed!

Gosh how confusing! How did you get ahold of her? Did you get a direct number?

Now im sort of wanting to go to Maricopa Skill Center cause I want to work as an LPN while getting my RN- but I wonder if an LPN from MSC is even transferrable like it used to be to just start block 3 if your pre & coreqs are finished...

Gosh I just wish there was a place with all the black & white yess or no answers!!

This was the email I got about the LPN:

Students entering the nursing program after June 2008 will not receive a

certificate for Practical Nursing after the second semester. Therefore students finishing the first and second semesters will not be eligible to apply for PN licensure. The nursing directors will make the final decision on offering a PN bridge course in mid April 08. This type of course is common in other nursing programs. If their decision if to create this course, then students will be eligible for licensure after passing this bridge course.

The number of our students choosing to apply for PN licensure is very small.Most of our students prefer to work as nurse externs while they are finishing the nursing program.

------I called after this email and they said that you can still get your LPN at the skills center or one of the LPN programs that are offered separately at the schools (for example the gateway fast track) and then pass the HESI with a high enough score to get into block 3

So I understand that they arent doing the PN testing out bridge thing going from blocks 2-3 but they are still doing the Gateway LPN fast track, and you would need to pass the hesi with that & get to move on to block 3 or is that whole program done away with? Im confused!!

Yes, the fast track program is totally separate from the "nursing program" there. It is strickly a vocational program. I do believe that once finished with pre-req's you will be able to get right into block 3 as was the case before. I did call Betty on her direct line and got right through. But, again,(IwannabeanRN) if you have secured a spot in Jan. at MSC that is good be cause getting in at Gateway is gonna be a challenge(I believe). But you can apply to both and then choose which way you want to go once accepted into both. Good luck!

the last time i talked to MSC i was told if my prereqs for RN were completed then i would be able to jump right into block 3 after graduating the lpn course. i hope this is true because this is exactly what i plan on doing! I'm going back down on monday and i will try and get information about this.

You will want to make sure of each programs policy. I was told once ( a long time ago) that they may have you do some skill assessment or take an additional class. That may have been misinformation, but I would still call one of the nursing programs directly and just say...Im an LPN, can I apply right to block 3? Just see what they say. I would think it'd be uniform but as we know, not everyone is always on the same page....

So what are your plans? Which school are you gonna take the chance with?

Well, I am technically on hold right now. My mom is going to finish nursing school and by the time she is done my little one will be entering school. Then it will be my turn. I will see what she says about her school when she is done and make my decision then. In the meantime, I will get my CNA and maybe take some pre-req's online. Part of me really wants to do the Gateway fast track LPN and go back for my RN later down the road when my kids are almost grown. But, then on the otherhand, I think about just going to a private ADN program and just getting it over with. Im not in a spot to make a definite decision so I will cross that bridge when I get to it.....
