No LPN bridge program

Nursing Students LPN-RN

Published

I have been taking classes to go into Blackhawk College, moline IL, ADN program as an LPN. I am an LPN that has been working in acute care for the past 5 years and, not to toot my own horn, but I have gained a lot of knowledge working there. Of course now I am all done with my pre-requistes and the cancel their bridge program. So I would have to start with first semester nursing students. They say they may bring it back, but they had to many LPNs that would not even get their license turn around and get into the bridge program and falling behind.

I have to say that I am offended that 6 years of working as an LPN is worth nothing when returning to school. Grrr. Do I wait another year and see if they reinstate it? Or start at the first semester learning to take blood pressures and give baths--yes, baths because they do not require a CNA course as a pre-requiste

GRRRR

How about set aside some money and do the Indiana State University bridge program since its online? Thats what Im going to do if I dont get into the lvn rn bridge program at my school next year.

Indiana State University is a good school from what I hear, but it's a big turn off for me as they are basically having you challenge classes that you've already taken for your VN/PN programs. I may or may not do it as that's CAs only option for an online LVN-RN (BSN) program. I just want my RN license and I don't want to take 3 years to complete it as I've already completed a previous BA in another field. If your state accepts ISU, and you don't mind challenging classes that you've already taken, and it fits your needs, then I would say go for it! Good Luck

Personally, I think I'd look into an LPN to BSN program instead of the ADN program, that way (hopefully) your experience wouldn't be passed to the side. Our school still has the bridge program, but the catch is that the LPN has to have practiced for at least one full year to apply. It seems like you've got a sticky situation on you hands :) It's crappy of that school to just drop the program like that, though! ;)

Good luck to ya'!

Make sure Indiana State University is accepted by your BON. My state doesn't recognize it....
