NLN Exam - Reference recommendations?

Hi Everyone ~

I have a silly question for you all - I am planning on taking the NLN exam in Febuary 2007 in NH - there are so many books to study from what are your recommendations? I viewed many of them on Barnes and Noble and seems that they have a huge selection from different publishers at varies prices. How do you know which to pick from?

very simple answer mary mcdonald nln review book. Also get practice on vocabulary very important. Go thru the above book word for word and write down every word you are not sure of or even know and study them all. That is how I scored high on vocabulary. When you take the test the vocabulary part is vocabulary, reading comprehension, and then vocabulary again. I recomend to skip reading comprehension and do all the vocabulary first and then go back to reading comprehension. I also recomend for all three parts to give yourself the last two minutes and just guess or fill in anything if you are goiing to run out of time. Do not leave any answer blank. Finally there are electrical circuit questions related to Physics in the science section. You can get an instructional DVD of ebay cheap, just make sure the above is included. Good luck

I used the McDonald NLN Review book and the Barrons Review book. Both were helpful. I only gave myself 3 weeks to prepare for this exam so I did all the questions in both and then when back and revised the areas I got incorrect in the practice.

Thank you both for your recommendations. I went over the elongated weekend to Barnes & Noble to get the Mary McDonald book seems they only have a 2004 copy write for LPN - is that what you had? Green cover? If you can verify that would be great I would hate to get the wrong book.

Also the Barrons book they did not have do you have the copywite info or ISBN info?

Hello to you taking your test in NH! I took the NLN test in NH back in March of this year. I bought the book that was already mentioned by Mary McDonald. I will tell you my own personal experience with the NLN test. I had only 2 weeks to prepare for the NLN so I used the book. While the book helped somewhat, trust me when I tell you that it is not really the questions that you will be asked on the original test. In the book, I was scoring rather high on the science portions and rather poorly on the math section. I was in a state of panic over the math part and thought I'd be fine on the science based on the content of this book. The test is very long, 3 hours total. I found that I was fine with the reading & vocabulary part of the test. I scored in the 98% for English. In Science, I did horrible and just barely made the passing percentile of only 52. Here I thought I would do good on the science and I just passed. Then in math, I should've done not so great according to the practice tests in the book. However, I scored in the 84% for math on the exam. My overall composite score is 129. I know this is not fabulous but it was much higher than what was required for my school. It is a tough test...I will not lie.

I am currently taking Chem & finishing my LNA in a few weeks will be taking the board on that. After which I will be studing for the NLN, wish me luck!

I used the MacDonald book. I did every question and every practice test starting at least one month before the exam. It made all the difference. I scored in 97th percentile for diploma and 95th percentile for AD scores. My composite score was 139. The science section is a challenge if you haven't taken any A&P courses. I had only completed one A&P course prior to the test.

Use a timer when you are taking the practice tests at home to get a sense of how much time to devote to each question. This will help you finish all the questions during the real exam.
