NGCSU wait list

Hi everyone. Congrats to the people who got into the ASN program at NGCSU. I am so disappointed because I was put on their wait list. Does anybody have any idea how many students are typically on their wait lists and do they put everyone on the wait list that have met the requirements?

Vallie007,

I don't know the specific numbers for NGCSU, but I did ask a similar question at Emory's open house. They said it completely varies from year to year. They pulled 70 people off the wait list one year, 4 the next and none the next year (2008?). I don't know if all qualified apps make it onto the list.

I was originally wait-listed by NGCSU, but got a letter a few weeks ago that said a slot opened up. Don't despair! I ABSOLUTELY had given up on this year. I hope you will be surprised like I was. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

:banghead:I also got put on a wait list. I applied to NGCSU LPN-RN Bridge program. When it all came down to it there were 55 qualified applicants total and they accepted 30. So I guess I have to wait to see what happens.

Were you guys going for the regular RN-ASN program?

Good Luck!

Yes, I applied for the ASN/RN program. Depending on our $$ situation when I get out, I would like to go on to the BSN program.

Will you be at the Lanier campus? I don't know as much about the LPN bridge, obviously. You guys will be so far ahead of newbies like me! I have to admit, I'm pretty nervous (and excited!).

Congratulations mlvangil :).....momgrad5/07, I will keep my fingers crossed for the both of us to get in too. I suppose being on the waiting list is better than being declined. I was just applying for the basic ASN. I don't have any nursing experience.

I know this thread was posted over a month ago, but maybe someone will read it. I just finished my first year in the nursing program at NGCSU. The way they go about deciding who gets in is through a point system. For example if you made As in your A&P classes that is a certain amt of pts, and so on. Being on the wait list this year gives you points when you reapply next year. Hope this helps.

Thanks Rainey23!

I am actually taking A&P I right now and several people were speculating how NGCSU picked their students. It seems like a big mystery to all of us.

So, I have to ask -- how was first year? I just got a portion of my textbooks and was amazed at the volume of info. How does it compare to A&P? I'm currently taking that at NGCSU in a condensed format -- 5 1/2 weeks for A&P I and 5 1/2 weeks for A&P II. It is pretty fast paced but very interesting and fun. I really am dying of curiosity and more than a little nervous. I'm sure my husband, family and friends are getting a little tired of all my speculating:nuke:

Hi mlvangil,

I am also starting the nursing program this fall. I will be at the Gainesville campus. You said you already got some of the textbooks, how did you find out what is required? I can't find anything on the school's website. I would love to have something to read to get a little bit of a head start!

Thanks!

Hello!

I first e-mailed the school and they directed me to the campus bookstore. The bookstore was a little relunctant to give out the info because they said the books could change. However, they've already placed an order for "boxes" of books for all the first year students. So I didn't worry too much that they will change.

Because of the cost, they got the manufacturers to package all the books together except two physciatric nursing books we will need (I don't know which ones yet).

If you buy the "boxed set" at the bookstore it will cost $411.70 (a savings of $54.90 off list price). I got mine through Amazon (all new) and paid around $300. If you would like the list they gave me, I'd be happy to give it to you "off line." The list is pretty long, so it might be easier for me to scan it and e-mail to you directly. Or I could run a copy and drop it in the mail?

Hi. I was taken off the waiting list and I will be at the Cumming campus. I'm so excited. I was looking on the website too and I didn't have any luck finding out what nursing books we will need. Also, does anyone know how the uniforms run? are they true to size, big small.....thanks

That is terrific! We will be at the same campus, Vallie007. I think the uniforms run true to size. The size calculator on the website seemed to work o.k. I did have to exchange the first set of pants I got -- should have ordered short. Meridy's was very easy to work with on the exchange. Hope that helps!

Thank you, mlvangil. I am so relieved. I wasn't sure I was going to get off that wait list. I look forward to meeting you soon. :)

Hey vallie007 - congrats on being taken off the wait list. Did you get into the LPN-RN Bridge program or regular ASN program? I'm supposedly on the wait list for Bridge and they say I probably won't hear anything until their orientation day which is June 3rd. Hopefully there will be some people that don't show up ; )

Good Luck to ya!
