Nurses General Nursing

hi everyone!

i will officially be a nursing student in august! i just graduated from high school and will be attending the florida hospital college of health sciences nursing program (if anyone goes to fhchs please give me feedback on how u like it) on a full scholorship by the way!. i am so happy!! :biggringi

my plans are to get my masters in nursing and to eventually travel to 3rd war countries. i was thinking of joining doctors without borders and/or become an international travel nurse. right now my interests are er/pediatric er, and ob/gyn. i recently conducted an internship at the disney's cancer institute which was a really interesting experience, however in a way it was a little boring at times because of all the rules and regulations, but don't get me wrong, it was a fantastic experience! :D

last summer i also went to the national youth leadership forum on medicine, which was such a blast! i have never had such a great time! just that alone makes me so anxious to start!

anyway, i just wanted to introduce who i am and get some help/feedback on something. i have to write an essay to apply for nursing admissions (i have been accepted for general admissions but not nursing yet). the essay's prompt is basically why i want to go into nursing and why i chose the florida hospital college of health sciences. i have so many things in my mind but i just keep getting stumped when it comes to starting the essay. i have a few different approaches for it.

the first one is to bluntly answer the questions, which i thought wasnt very creative, or to write as if i had already accomplished my goals/dreams and to describe all the major details that lead me to that point...sort of like writing like i went back in time to reflect on my life (as if i took a time machine back to my past years). or maybe to write with an accumulation of quotes (which i would need help with from all u brains that read my post). i guess sort of to write my essay with quotes here in there about what nurses in general love about their job and how i haven't started the actual journey of being a nurse but how i can't wait to do so based on all the joy and self fulfillment that i will recieve by being a nurse. what do you think? any input? i am going to try to start this essay asap. i have to have it in by july something. i also love the saying from the first grey's anatomy. i dont recall it word for word but it goes something like this: it's (medical school) not an easy journey, some fail, others succeed. those who succeed finds that all the hard work was worth every headache..." i was thinking of putting that in my essay...well see. oh geez...i just thought of something else from patch adams...wow, im such a scatter brain today...dont mind me.

anyway, sorry about how long this post is...i just have so much on my mind and so little ppl to talk to about it. i just felt that this was my opportunity to get it all off my chest and hopefully have people read and respond to me. thanks for listening! oh, and if u dont mind, could u please right what u love most about having a career in nursing and what u hate most...if anything. thank you so much for all your help in advance!!!

sincerely,

:nurse: marissa

My feelings are to just write from your heart and forget the quotes - especially do not use quotes from a TV show!!! They are looking for your feelings, so quotes from other nurses will not be useful. You seem to have plenty of enthusiasm so channel that into writing why you want this so badly. Be sure to include any people in your life or past experiences that you have had that have helped mold your decision to enter nursing.

Write out a rough draft, revise, revise, revise....make sure your grammar and spelling are flawless...get someone else to read it and help you proof it....but the content should be yours.

If you have trouble getting the rough draft done start with a list or outline and go from there.

your final product should be 2-3 pages well written and doublespaced for easy readability.

good luck...you can do it.

mtnmom- thank you so much for your advice. i really appreciate it. I sort of figured that i should right from the heart...i guess i was wanting something different, to be out there, and unique from the other applicants...and i know that will no matter what.

thanks again!
