If I substituted 38 for 45, I could have written your message. I took care of a patient who commented to me that he was glad I was here because the prior nurse was too inexperienced. Little did he know, she had a heck of a lot more experience than I did. I am fresh out of school and she was in her 20s but had been nursing for several years. I think our age does make it harder for that reason. People assume I know things because of my age. Also, I notice that nurses are hard on the new ones. I hear them talking about the other new graduates all the time. How quickly they forget. I get scared sometimes and think about leaving the hospital for an office or something. But I keep hanging on for some reason. I think working night shift at my age makes it extra hard. Just wanted to let you know that you are not alone. Christine
