Hello All,

This is my first post so I will give a bit of my background. I just received my license as of a week ago, graduated in May 09. I have relocated in July to Texas from Ohio after getting married. I did not realize the kind of obstacles I would be hurdling when it came to finding employment in Texas. I have found the only way to apply for anything is over the internet, which is OK. Yet, I am finding it is somewhat of a pain due to every time I apply for a position I have to answer same form or questionnaire over and over if applying to the same hospital system. I did not realize even with my RN license I would still be classified as a GN and therefore jobs are still really narrowed down and hard to find. I am now getting ready do some Cold Calling tomorrow and apply to Nursing Homes due to this is where I have the majority of my experience. I have been a STNA for almost 5 years. I really wanted to find something in the hospital but this is not looking like I will find employment any time soon...UGGHH. I have been unemployed since May and with Christmas and the New Year right around corner was hoping with passing my NCLEX, I would have a bit more open up to me. However, I am not seeing this at this time. I have applied for nearly 100 job listing at mostly all hospitals in the greater DFW area. Does anyone have any secrets that I should consider? Does anyone know if I might have more luck in the Nursing Home industry? In addition, in Ohio many nursing homes had sign on bonuses and paid more than the hospitals. I am not sure where to find out this information. I really could use some help.

Thank You

Finally, an RN but still unemployed

Specializes in Cardiac Care, Palliative Care.

Did you try applying to the VA hospital? They hire new grads for some of their positions. Right now they have positions open in same day surgery, mental health(but requires 2 years of acute mental health experience), and the community living center(which is like a nursing home). The Community Living Center has 8 current openings, and is a great way to get your foot in the door.

The link is below. Good luck!

Thank You, I am looking into it! Kinda funny I started out at the VA hospital getting my STNA. I was offered a job way back then as an Aide and amazed at the Benefits they offered.

Again, thanks I really appreciate it!!
