hi all!

i'm a newly graduated rn whose first position will be on an ortho floor in a few weeks. i guess i'm just looking for advice from seasoned ortho nurses on what to expect. ortho was not my first choice, but i was hired for the position and decided to take it to get experience, as i'm not really sure what area of nursing i want to pursue yet!

so if you could let me know a little about it, it would be greatly appreciated!

thanks!

i am by no means a 'seasoned' nurse yet. but i love my ortho floor! its a high turnover rate of pt's bcuz they are there for usually 3 days and gone. but you get a routine. you just have to learn the little things like if one doc likes something that another one doesnt. like the general plan for their pt's. its busy as hell, but worth it.

if you ever need help post here. ppl are great on this entire site!

& if you ever wanna chat, pm me.

was in the same position as you are know. its tough at first real tough. after ur orientation (12wkd for neew grads at my hosp) and work a few weeks in ur own, it will al click. poof!! then ur an ortho nurse. trust me im still learning new stuff. u never stop as they all say and its impossible tolearn all ortho in 12wks. now i love ortho and dread getting floated to another floor or getting a medical pt "dumped" on our floor. u should never have a fresh post op surgical pt in a room with a contaminated pt
