That's a really open-ended question, and a lot of it may depend on what area of surgery you're in. What works in cardiothoracics is probably different from what works in ophthalmology, which is probably different from what works in general surgery. My best advice is to try to keep your eyes open to see what all the other (good) nurses are doing so that you can incorporate what they are doing into your own practice. I myself try very hard not to worry about the computer until the procedure is 100% under way. Focus on the patient first, then the charting. The charting will get a lot faster once you are used to which fields are where (on the computer screen). As for varicose veins, compression stocking will help (http://www.ameswalker.com) has high quality stockings -- I have no financial interest in them, just love the products they offer! You don't necessarily have to stand all day in the OR -- this is almost always the first thing that non-OR nurses ask me about working in the OR. In my area if you are scrubbed, you're always sitting down (unless you're really short - you have to position yourself so that your torso is even with the sterile field). The circulator has chair and can sit whenever s/he isn't actively doing something to assist with the case. As for getting along well with others, decide ahead of time (and remind yourself at the start of every shift) that you are going to take the high road in whatever conflicts come up in the day. Just do it! You won't regret it. Doctors and nurses both respect competence, so study your new field as though you were in school. Commit to learning and ask good questions.
I think you've made a great move because I wouldn't want to work anywhere but the OR! Enjoy!

I agree with the first commenter that compression stockings (www.supportsockshop.com) can really help you in your JOB. You can find alot of compression stockings in your local store and/or search the net for more info on exactly how it can help you.
I wish you a goodluck in your new JOB.
