I'm a fairly new lpn and in schools or my rn I work in a place where we don't do a lot of iv sticks so I don't get very much practice at it...any tips to help me while I'm precepting in the hospital?

Don't know how it is elsewhere, but my facility has a course for people to learn how to do IVs. Those who don't take the course can't start IVs and have to call the IV team.
If you are on orientation, would it be possible to spend a day in the preop area? That's my facility's go to unit for those who need to have IV starts signed off. Lots of opportunity.
We don't really have that I work in a nursing home. I'm trying to find somewhere that I can get some practice I have missed a couple starts and it has knocked my confidence pretty bad

Dont worry, youll probably suck at IVs for awhile. Its pretty much like a new grad thing... I'm still crappy and I have a little over a year of experience. When I was an lpn, we really didnt have much IV starts in the nursing home, so almost every IV start I did was in the hospital. Whenever there is an actual IV that is needed in the nursing home, make sure you take that opportunity. Same with an IV opportunity you get while in clinical. Practice makes perfect!
