Yes, I have advice....calm down!

you are only on day 2. It will take you 6 months minimum to feel any level of comfort doing this job. It is hard, even for experienced people it's hard! You will slowly pick up speed as you learn the residents, learn their individual ways of doing things, learn where to find everything, etc. It just takes time. Be patient with yourself - Rome wasn't built in a day.

HELP!!!!!!!

Today was my second day of orientation in Nursing Home. I am frustrated and overwhelmed with everything. I spent too much time just passing meds . I was checking and tripple checking meds.I feel if I will continue to do it slowly I wouldn't have time to complite my job on time.

I really need help on time management and so on.....

Any advice? Please, help me! I am just crying......

During my second day of orientation I made med mistake. The patient seems to be OK. I asked the nurse who was supervising me and teaching me during that day if I need to do anything about it. He said,''No''. So, I did not report it to supervisor. He may did it but I am not sure. Anyway by the end of the shift nobody came to me regarding this matter. I am so scarred. Can I be fired on my second day of orientation? The nurse said to me not to worry but pass meds slowly in future before I feel comfortable doing it faster. I learned a lot from this mistake.

Very good..I'm glad you learned from this mistake. It is somewhat concerning that you have already made a mistake. You just have to slow down and triple check yourself each and every time. Some med errors can be deadly!

It is also important that you report all medication errors to your supervisor. This is the only way that a manager will know that there may be a system error. In other words,if you made a mistake, maybe there is something wrong with the medication order and it would be likely that another nurse would make the same error. If a manager is never notified then the system never gets that double check.

Yes, you can probably be fired after only 2 days on the job BUT, it's probably pretty doubtful too. All nurses are human and all nurses make mistakes. Don't ever let anyone lead you to believe otherwise.

Again, calm down, breath, take your time and learn a little more everyday.

I remember crying so much my first few months, just cause I was so overwhelmed! It does get easier. I agree with Nascar Nurse, report all med errors to your supervisor. That way you can fix your mistake, learn from it, and move on. The anxiety could cause you to make more mistakes, otherwise. It also shows management that you are trustworthy and willing to learn from your mistakes instead of hide them, which is a warning flag.

It does get easier! You can do it!
