New job and joining

OK so this question is for guard individuals. I recently took a job at my local hospital in the ER. this is my dream job and I am very excited to start working in the department. In addition I am highly interested in joining the air guard and have been working on getting in. I am in the process of completing meps I just needed to submit some medical Records. I feel bad starting a new job and then leaving them in the near future to attend COT and other schools and having the first weekend of the month off. to add to this I feel working in the ER will also be more beneficial for my position in the guard.

Has anyone else been in this pposition? What are your thoughts?

    Was in reserves for years and had to work weekends etc. The hospital will work around your schedule. If you are to work every other weekend plan on working 2 out of 4 instead and another weekend for drill. My guess is that you are not the only nurse at that facility who is in the guard or reserves. Most schools in the guard and reserves 2 weeks long which fulfills your 2 week active duty for the year. I am not sure how long COT is for the guard but I can image it is like OBLC for the reserves which is only 3 weeks long vs. 11 weeks for active duty.

    I just transferred to a new unit and have also just joined the reserves. I work every third weekend, but my employee has been very understanding with the fact that I will need to get off for whatever weekend my reserve unit has drill. I expected to have to make those weekends up but the hospital is actually just going to let me skip my weekend at work if they coincide with the reserves. I'm sure being gone for a couple weeks will be inconvenient for your employer while you are gone to COT, but like jeckrn said, you likely aren't the only one in the guard/reserves that has worked at your facility.
