New Job decision

I graduate from an ADN program next month. My job possibilities are Med surg , Nephrology unit with a mix of med surg and kidney transplant patients, and a cardiac floor. I wanted to start with the basic Med Surg, but the kidney transplant and cardiac floors were really interesting. I really want to become a good nurse. Would it hinder my development of nursing skills to start on a specialized floor? This is all so exciting.

It IS exciting, but don't let the excitement lead you where you're not ready to go.

My advice is to go to a Med/Surg unit and skip the transplants, cardiac, etc., you can always go there later.

Right now, you need the basic experience, and that is best gained on a Med/Surg unit.

JMHO.
