New Grad looking for work in Philly

Published

I graduated in December and just recently passed the NCLEX exam. I've applied to many hospitals(HUP, TJU, Cooper, Main Line, Crozer, CHOP) and so far have only one interview set-up. Any idea if these places are only looking for experienced RN's? Thanks for any advice!

Does your nursing school offer any kind of job placement assiatance? I graduated many years ago, when there wasn't much of a "nursing shortage", and some hospitals were reluctant to interview new grads. Our nursing school set up a number of career fairs, inviting area hospitals to attend, and giving us a foot in the door, so to speak.

If you don't get a response to your applications, I would try 2 things: Go back to your school and ask for job placement assistance, and contact the nurse managers of the units which interest you directly, either by phone or letter. As a former nurse manager, I can tell you that many Human Resources departments are vast black holes into which applications and resumes go, never to be seen again.

Good luck!
