Hey everyone! My name is Tara. I'm an RN working in the ER in Pensacola, Fl and am currently pursuing my BSN online through the Univerisity of South Alabama. I'll be done in july and plan on starting Anethesia school next Aug. I'm in the process of completing and sending off my applications this week. I'm applying to Texas Christian University (they have a distant program here in Pensacola, Fl) and a college in Ft. Myers/Naples, Fl. I have enjoyed reading all of your discussions and will be asking plenty of questions as they arise! Congrats to all of you who have recently been accepted to CRNA programs. I hope I'll be joining you soon!

Hi,
I am new to the forum also...and also a nurse in Pensacola...am starting at Sacred Heart this week.
I have begun researching schools so that I can go towards my dream of being in anesthesia, but I don't know yet which programs I will apply for.
What can you tell me about the distance learning program at TCU? I have read some on it, but not enough to know if I want to try that route.

Tara,
Have you considered or did you apply to the Gooding Institute in Panama City? If not, I am wondering why you didnt choose them...I am looking at CRNA schools here in Fl so ANY info on ANY of these schools would be greatly appreciated.:)

i looked at gooding and had a friend apply there also. at the time, approx 1 year ago, their admission criteria were fairly high, only took 10 students, had to have > 1500 on gre. etc. i have heard it is a good school if you can get in.

Thanks for the info, I think they take 12-14 students now but that is only what I have heard. Still not a lot of people but that school sure would fit into my life a little better since I have family there and could live relatively free...not to mention the beaches...if SRNA's ever get to see them....:imbar
I decided not to apply to the Gooding program in Panama City for a few reasons. First it is a very small program (less than 15 students) and all of your experience is at Bay Medical Center. If you know anything about Panama City, Bay Medical Center is a fairly small hospital. I felt that there might be a chance I wouldn't feel as comfortable with my experience as a new Grad as others who attended larger schools or had experiences in several large hospitals. Saying that though, I did apply to Texas Christian University and they have started a distant program at Sacred Heart Hosp in Pensacola. They have 13 students at Sacred this year and while that is small, the program has a total of 80 students. Also, Sacred Heart is a large hospital that sees and does everything in the Panhandle. I feel there is plenty to learn at that hospital.
Maggie, the director of the program is Kay Sanders. There is a web page for anesthesia under http://www.TCU.edu. She is very easy to talk to and will answer all your questions. If I can help in any other way, just let me know. I'm working at Baptist in the ER and just took on a PRN job at West Florida in the OR so I'm keeping busy.
Does anyone know much about the program at Florida Gulf Coast University in Ft. Myers/Naples, Fl? I just sent my application off to them also.
