New to the facility

I just started working at a LTCF after being agency for a number of years. I had worked this facility for a number of years, as agency, and was very familiar with it, so I did not need much of an orientation.

Agency work in the area was getting so that I had to drive further and further, so I decided to take a job as a staff nurse there. Things are going really well, except for one thing. I am getting the cold shoulder from a few of the nurses that have been there for some time....let me explain

I have been a LTCF LPN for a number of years. I have lots of good experience, in all fields, as we all know agency gets put everywhere and you have to fine tune your skills and be super organized.

The DON placed me on the vent/trach unit right off. I have lots of experience with this type of patient and enjoy it so much. But, here is the problem. Some of the nurses that were working on that unit full time, have been displaced by my coming there. They have been moved to either the ALZ unit or intermed units. When I get on the elevator with them I get a cold shoulder, or they confront me asking me where I got my experience at. This makes me feel terrible. I did not start there to take anyone's place. How do I make them understand that this was not my decision and I go where the DON tells me. :urgycld:

try the truth..might not help but couldn't hurt...

Yeah..I would be upfront about it. I would be a bit miffed as an employee of xyz for so many years too but then why would the DON move them? Are they doing a poor job on the unit?

We've had a few agency nurses come on our staff and I couldn't be happier. We love them (and would always bug them to join us).
