Nervous about Starting Nursing Program

Hi Everyone,

I have all my pre-reqs, except for CNA class/license and microbiology. I am so close to getting into the program, but I am scared of completing the program and not being able to find a job because I have a husband and 3 kids we can't just move anywhere for me to get a job. I have worked so hard to get my pre-reqs. I am taking the cna class this summer and applying to get into the program by January, but I do not want to be wasting my time. Does anyone else feel this way?

I know how you feel. The area I live in is saturated with nurses, and it is impossible to get anything out of school besides a med/surg floor. I just have to tell myself that it is still a few years away and a lot can happen between now and then. I thought about going to get my CNA, but it does not count for anything towards my application and we will be CNAs after our first quarter is done!

Oh that is cool! I would not be getting the cna license either, but it is required to get into the program in my area. I am willing to take whatever job I can get after graduation as long as I get the proper training.

I really want to work in the hospital. I come from a long line of family and friends that are nurses and all of them have told me that you need to be sure if you want to work in the hospital that you need to start in the hospital. They said that the hospital will be hesitant to hire anyone that has been trained elsewhere. My mother in law has been a nurse for 20 years working in a house taking care of disabled children. She wanted to transfer into hospital work and the HR here told her there was no way she could get a job at the hospital now! It is probably different in areas where there is a need for nurses. From what I understand a major advantage when you get out of school is if you have been working as a CNA or LPN for the hospital while your in school.

CLC demands now that you have to get the CNA license before they will let you start classes to become a RN?

Because my plan was cause I know i want to be a nurse skipping CNA and going straight for RN

Yes Apple, they do require the CNA class and license now. This became a requirement last year. With the cna class you can choose to take it in I think it is 8 weeks or 16 weeks. You do not have to work as a cna though to get in the program but you have to get the license.

okay is there any requirments to take the cna class? also what would u suggest for the week thing? and thank you so much i was all prepared to jump over there and start the nursing classes but knowning this helps alot....maybe i might do what i orignally planned then but i dont if it would help or work.

My orignal plan was to become a cna try and get a job, and well working as a cna or starting before i get the job start going to the classes to become a RN
