NEPA Newbie

Hi. I have a BS in psych and am in business. Taking care of elderly relatives and an interest in health have made me realize I want to become a nurse. Maybe even a nurse practitioner. Where do I begin? I assume you have to have a dergee in "nursing" to take any exams for a license? Hopefully I only need to take 1 or 2 semsters at Penn State.

Hi Ideal,

To take the NCLEX (licensing exam) you'll need to be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing - diploma, associate's degree or bachelor's degree program. Some BSN programs offer an accelerated option for those who already have a degree. In my diploma program about 1/3 of the students already have a degree in some other field.

You'll have to see what's available in your area - welcome and good luck!
