Radiology Nurse

Hey my name is Leslie. I have been a nurse for 4 years now and I am here to tell you I didn't expect how poorly your supposed team mates will treat you. It has left me questioning why I chose this profession. Not only that but I would say at least half of the patients could care less about what you do for them. They think you are thier servants. This is only my experience though. However it has left me with such a bad taste that I am considering changing professions. I am finishing my BSN now as a personal goal, but I don't think I will go any further in nursing. By the way would you be willing to talk with me about health care practices in your country. This is an assignmet I have to complete for my class. I am sorry to give you such a bleak look but I want to be honest. Thanks.
Radiology Nurse: Do you think that it has anything to do with your specialty or how you perceive yourself? I have been a nurse for over twenty five years and have always enjoyed what I do. Sure, we all get the patient from h*** sometimes, but it is not a daily thing. How are you treating your patients? If this has been happening to you for a solid four years then something is not right. Perhaps you should consider another area of nursing. But first, I would take a step back and look closely at yourself.
1. Is it your place of employment that you don't like?
2. The types of patients that you are usually assigned to that you don't like?
3. The type of nursing that you are doing?
Consider that first..................................................
I have nursed on med/surg, home health, gyn, neph, and now radiology. I would have to say it is a lot better in radiology I think due in part the patients are not admitted to the hospital. It has a lot to due with the population which we serve to. I am probably one of the most giving and caring people you would want to meet. I have had several honors for my caring, but it has been a rough road dealing with some of the patients. It really hurts me when I am treated so rudely when I am doing my best to help them. As far as other nurses, our hospital is know for eating thier own. We are short 100 nurses at the present. Turnover rates are so high it's pathetic. I respect your being able to hand in thier 25 years but I beat people treated you a lot different then. At least that is what the nurses I talk to say.
