I have been a nurse for about 10 years. I have worked in pysch and doctor's office. I am wanting to get into the hospital but I am having a hard time getting hired. What can I do? I thought there was a nursing shortage.

hey MK!
don't fret. the best way to get into a hospital is to make some phone calls. i'm sure in your 10 years you have made some connections/networked with people that work in hospitals near you. i would suggest talking to them and applying online to the hospitals you are interested in...also, give the hospital's HR/recruiters a call. let them know about your experience and tell them you want to get back to the bedside!
it takes a bit of leg-work/phone-work, but it can happen!
good luck!
p.s.--don't give up, soup up your resume and go in to HR if you have a chance!

I've encountered the same thing where I live. I'm in a small town and it's who you're related to and who you know that determines whether you get hired or not.
I applied for a job at the local hospital here and was shunned. They actually had the nerve to send me a flyer not long ago about a job fair. I felt compelled to rip it up and send it back to them but I didn't bother.

Talking directly to nurse managers helps, too. You only need one to give you the chance.
