We are about to purchase an ED electronic charting package. We have had our hearts and minds set on Medhost, which appears to be one of the best out there, but a problem with our states liability laws have shot this down. We have been pushing for this program for years. Well, we need to make a decision very soon and we have started looking at Allscripts. Anyone using their ED package and could give pros, cons other recommendations? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

EPIC system - In our ER, it's EPIC ASAP. It's very user friendly and covers many bases!

I agree! Epic is what I used to use in Cardiology and it was GREAT. We are now using Allscripts and I don't like it. NOT user friendly, does not do much, their Tech support is AWFUL! Our training was via WEB! I had to have my staff log in and listen to their pre recorded training sessions for HOURS upon HOURS after work, during work, weekends, etc. It was miserable. The girl was on site for 1 day and she spent it mainly with my PR rep and one doctor. If we call them, we get prompts and then a call center who will send a message through to a tech to 'call us back' about the problem. I also have an issue with their server going down a lot and running slow and freezing up on us and giving us errors and losing data we entered such as my consents and discharges for procedures!
If you can, I'd say stay away from ALLSCRIPTS! Epic is one of the best!

EPIC ASAP is what I use in the ER. I personally don't like it. But that could be that I am just getting the hang of it still.
It just seems a little bulky for ER. I have had experience with emergisoft and liked that a little better, but who knows.

We use allscripts in our clinic setting and it is a pain!! It is not user friendly or easy to navigate. This is in a clinic setting. I imagine it would be worse in the ER. We have been using it for a year and still are trying to figure it out. My advice is to go with another program.:)

I've used EPIC, Meditech, and T-Systems. Of those, I liked T-Systems best, then Meditech, then EPIC. The most important thing is that you buy a system specifically designed for use in the ER. I rank EPIC last because the hospital I worked at didn't think the ER deserved their own module and they could just tweak the floor charting module to fit. Uhhh, no. It was horrible. Perhaps their ER module was fantastic but EPIC overall stunk.
