Hi, I am in a situation where I could pick up a minor, but I am not sure which one to choose. I was thinking something in Management, but when I looked at the courses they didn't look like they would be much of an advantage in a nursing career, so I am looking for suggestions. I don't think I would want to do anything in Psychology, I feel like I've had so much of it already I think if I had to take another psych class I would probably go crazy. Keeping in mind that I go to a very small school (

My recommendation is to follow your heart -- rather than choose something that you think may be practical. You never know where your career will take you. But you will probably find yourself drawn down career paths that relate to those topics that interest you. By expanding your education in an area that you truly find interesting, your education will be compatible with your natural interests -- and that knowledge will be at least peripheral useful as you find yourself gravitating in those directions.
If you pick an area that you don't truly love, your career choices down the road will probably not take you down a related career path.

Mangement might be a good minor....especially if you could see yourself going into management later in your career.
Getting a minor wasn't an option for me, but if given the option I would have taken two teachable subjects, should I want to become a highschool teacher. Here you need to have so many University credits in a suject to teach it at the highschool level, and a few more credits in sociology & science, and I would have qualified (after Teacher's College of course). But, like I said.....a minor wasn't really an option.
I dont think a minor will make you any more valuable as a new grad, since new grads are likely to get hired anywhere (and you can't exactly get a minor in Critical Care nursing, or peds nursing)......but later in your career it might be an advantage.

Does your school have a health sciences dept? My minor was in health sciences. Goes along nicely with nursing. Was aiming for a Masters in Public Health with thoughts of using this in teaching in the future.
Thanks for all of your help...my advisor suggesting management, and that's what I've decided to do. I'm not officially declaring it as my minor yet, I am going to take a class in it next semester and if I like it I will officially declare. Thanks so much!:nuke:
