In a nutshell, a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) is certified in Midwifery. It is an advanced practice, Master's level certification. CNM's practice specifically with pregnant women, assisting them through their pregnancy and delivery. In some states, a CNM can only offer services during a delivery.

Women's Health Nurse Practitioner (WHMP) is also a Masters or Doctorate level training. A WHNP sees patients with a variety of women's health issues (gynocological as well as obstetrical). A WHNP may not actually provide services during a delivery, depending on state laws. They provide wellness exams and some prenatal services.

Since they are Master's level programs, you can expect schooling to be at least two or three additional years depending on the program and how many credits you take at a time. The price also varys considerably depending on the school. You should contact each program individually to find out the price.

Columbia University, New York University, and State University of New York offer CNM and WHNP programs. Stony Brook U has an online CNMprogram.

Actually, CNM's can provide the same services as WHNP with the addition of attending births. CNMs do women's health care and primary care as well.
