I am 90% sure i want to go to nursing school. I am 47 and need to get started no later than Jan 07. I have an Associates in Liberal Arts. My husband is ill and can no longer work, so I need a good career. i am tired of working 2 jobs with 60 plus hours a week and still not being able to make ends meet. I used most of my pell grant money getting the Associates in 2002. What is the best way to get schooling paid for, and is it better to co op with a hospital or take courses through a career center etc. I live in Dayton Ohio. Also, i have heard that there is a 2 year waiting period for most programs - is that true? At 47 I really can't afford to wait. I would greatly appreciate any direction - a big TKS...shan

I will be 47 in October and have been working on prerequisites for the past 1 1/2 years. I also had Associates in Arts since I wanted to get into teaching. But I changed my mind and I am now taking additional science classes and others towards BSN or ADN. Prerequisits will take time especially if you work. Find out what programs are offered in your area and talk to counselors at the schools. I am at a Community College and we have a ADN program at that school.
There is no waiting list here but it is very competitive to get in...you need to make A/B's in the science classes, A's are always better :wink2:
It will take a couple of years to get there....nothing is fast about getting into nursing school.
