need advice

After working 6 1/2 years med surg and then getting laid off, I figured it was time to try something new. I was really interested in perioperative nursing . I was finally offered a position in pre-op with crosstraining to holding and pacu. The problem was I was offered the position a month after I had interviewed for it. Being unemployed, I had already taken another position by then. I was only in general hospital orientation but felt obligated to stay. Now after 2 days of orientation on the floor, I cant help feeling like i missed out on an opportunity to do something I would have liked. My current position is in the nursery. My question is how can I orient in this position but also get some or type peroperative experience for the future. The jobs were within the same system and the handbook says 6 months is required in one position before you can transfer. Would it be unprofessional of me to inquire about the position I turned down? I don't want my current supervisor to know I am thinking about this because I definately need a job! Should I just stay in my current position the 6 months and see if there are any preop/pacu openings then? After 2 days in the nursery I have experienced a lot of "down" time. If I am going to be at work I would like to stay busy(not overwhelmed) just busy. Would I get this in preop/pacu? Thanks for any input!
