Need some help!

I worked at a hospital over the summer as an RN Extern (I was going into my 3rd semester of an ADN program) doing the night shift. The supervisor said I did well & told me if I was still interested in working there after I graduate (this coming May) to give her a call in January & she would set my resume aside. I left on really good terms by the way.

Well.....it's January. I called her & left her a vm (she was out sick per her secretary). I told her I was still very much interested in a position there & asked if there was anything I needed to do (send updated resume, recommendation letters, etc.). I said I looked forward to hearing from her.

Well that was 2 weeks ago & I haven't heard anything. I don't want to call back & seem pushy or annoying but I don't know what else to do.

So...........should I call again? Send an e-mail this time? Wait longer to see if she calls back? Help!!! :)

The way I see it... You have nothing to loose. It's like asking someone out on a date. She's either going to say no or yes. So why not just make the effort?

Personally, I would gather all my paperwork and go visit her. I would tell her I had sent them in but wanted to hand her a copy in person. Heck... She may very well remember you by site but not by name.

Or her secretary may have "missplaced" the paperwork. You never know.

Dress nice and be professional. I think if you are interested in the job, you should make the effort and not just leave it to chance.

That's a good idea. Thanks!!

amen. If she is not hiring right this minute she might have put the thought of you on the back burner - assuming the message got to her at all.

I would still call. A lot of people are really slack about things like returning phone calls.

That's what I was thinking. I don't think the hospital is hiring right now plus I don't even graduate until May. I just want to get into their new grad program which is opening up soon & having her consider me for employment &/or recommend me for the program would be awesome.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I would absolutely recommend either calling again, or better yet going over in person to give her your resume, recommendations and cover letter. I would also send a copy of all of these things to the human resources department, as well as applying online to any positions that come open that you are interested in (that could probably wait until sooner to when you graduate unless it is specifically listed as a graduate nurse internship that doesn't begin until summer).

I graduated last May, and just now started a job. I really wish that I had been a little more proactive in making sure that my resume made it into the right hands when I had the chance and while people still remembered who I was. I was also told time and again that I needed to make sure to apply online as well as handing in a resume so that all the HR stuff can get through the proper channels.

Hope that helps...Congrats on being almost done!
