NCLEX

Published

I just wanted to vent really quickly about my NCLEX experience and possibly help others/ answer questions regarding what to expect from the NCLEX. I personally thought the NCLEX was the hardest nursing exam I have ever taken. I passed it on my first attempt with 75 questions, but it was by no means an easy exam. I was the valedictorian of my nursing program. I graduated with a 4.0 and had the highest exit exam score the faculty of my college had ever seen. I'm not trying to brag at all, I'm just trying to support my point and offer some quick background information. I brought a wealth of knowledge to the table, and it did not seem to help me one bit (I guess it did because I passed). I think that is why I found the NCLEX so frustrating. I fully understand how the NCLEX works, and I realize that I was probably in the higher level” questions for most of the test. Having said that, I do not believe that the NCLEX is a great exam to really test your overall nursing knowledge or judgment for that matter. 87% of students pass this exam on the first try, so it just adapts to what you know and helps you pass if you are lacking in the core-content department basically… or it tries to stump you if you know too much and makes you feel like you completely bombed it. To me, that is a strange way to benchmark people's educational success and a weird examination tool to use as the requirement for gaining acceptance into the registered nurse profession. Most people that I have heard from that passed with 75 questions thought they completely bombed it, myself included. I would not have been surprised to find out that I got 60 of the 75 questions wrong. When the test shut-off at 75 questions I was devastated. Like WTF was that?! I got a level 3 on every single ATI proctored exam, crushed the ATI comp predictor, and I averaged close to 70% on Uworld which is 20% higher than the national average! The NCLEX was supposed to be a breeze!! I thought I was going to go in there and destroy the NCLEX with ease and ride off into the sunset! Everyone I've talked to and everything I've read on the internet said that ATI was much harder than the NCLEX, and that Uworld was much harder than the NCLEX. I did not find that to be true at all. I thought ATI and Uworld were easy compared to the NCLEX. So if your nursing program uses ATI, do not be lulled into a false sense of security and assume that you do not have to study for the NCLEX just because the comp predictor says you have a 99% chance of passing the NCLEX. They are NOTHING alike. The 48 hours I had to wait to get my results were excruciating to say the least. I did the Pearson Vue trick and it turned out to be accurate for me but I did not really fully trust that. Ok… done venting. And most importantly, I passed and now I'm an R.N.!!!!

Ok drama queen
