nclex application question

Published

hi suzzane..=)

i am from the philippines..=)

i was just wondering if you could help me with this, I am about to apply for NCLEX, and just about ready to send the required documents, my question is, is it ok for me to place my mom's address in the US in the application for licensure by examination form? would that be considered my mailing address?

I ask this because I attended a seminar about this, and the atty. mentioned that we can do that because the processing would be faster.. I just wanted some clarification... thanks a lot.. regards to all nurses out there...=)

Specializes in I wanna be a NICU Nurse.

I think you can. But it could be a hassle since your mom will be sending it again to you.

Not sure where yoy plan to apply for NCLEX, there is no such thing and it is not available to you like that. You will be applying for licensure as an RN in the US and need to meet the requirements of a state Board of Nursing, before they will permit you to sit for that exam. It requires approval of a state BON to be able to take the exam, there is no way to apply for it.

Taking of the NCLEX exam is the final step in the licensing process, it is definitely the only one. You will not be able to take the exam, until they approve everything else.

And forget what they told you at that seminar, it is incorrect. You have graduated from a foreign school, you will need to have a credentials eval done, whether the state does it on your own, or thru the CES by CGFNS is dependent on that state. The US Address may save you a few days because of the mail, but helping speed up the process, never going to happen.

Unfortunately, there are quite a few attorneys out there that give bad advice about this.

Take the time to read the stickies at the top of this forum and you will get more useable information that you can really use.

There is no hassle with using a US address, not sure why anyone would say that. The ATT can be sent by e-mail and it is sent by Pearson-Vue, the BON does not send it. You do not need the license in hand to have while you are in the Philippines, only passing of the NCLEX is required for immigration.

thanks suzzane..

i'm applying for the state of california, so it's ok to place a US address even though i'm here in the philippines?

so what wud be your advice, use the US address or my own address here in the philippines?

thanks..

If you are asking for my opinion, you would not find me even recommending CA for initial licensure for any foreign nurse. Never have and never will.

Reasons:

1.) One month wait to get your results if you are in the Philippines, over

2 1/2 weeks to get results if in the US, with US address.

2. Unable to endorse to any other state with it as no license will be issued until you are in the US and with a SSN# in hand. Always much faster to endorse to CA.

3. CA does their own credentials eval, and is known to take longer than many other states.

Please take the time to do some reading here on the same topic and you will see many posting about it.

Then if that's the case..which state do you endorse?

There is no cookie cutter answer for that. There are alot of variables that get added in the equation.

Sure, there are states that will issue a license to you without a SSN#, but all require a SSN# to renew.

CA also will take four weeks to get the results of the NCLEX exam, most have problem with that.

Choice should always be based on where you wish to work. Then go from there.

You also need to take into account that quite a few states have only a 90 day window to take the NCLEX once the ATT is issued.
