Navy nurse

Hello all, I just graduated and contracted with the military. I'm going to ODS, but will have to pay for my own uniform. I understand that 3,000 is needed. I was wondering if anyone knows if I have to have that money my first day of ODS, or can I use my pay that I will recieve while I'm there to pay for my uniform? Thanks for the help!!

This is shocking to say the least, i had no idea the Navy is making members pay out pocket for uniforms while all service members are given uniform allowances. I would have the money on day 1 because you will more than likely visit the Uniform shop to purchase uniforms (PT gear, dress Blues, Whites, Khaki, underwear, etc) on your first day in order to begin your training. Officer uniforms are very expensive due to the gold piping and insignias, but at least you want have to buy new items until the next uniform modification (which is normally every 3yrs for the Navy). Congrats Ensign :)

Army also requires officers to buy their own uniforms, no stipend provided. This is not unique to Navy. Wouldn't shock me if the AF did this, too.
