NAU ABSN 2013

Hey everyone, I was accepted last week from the alternate list and am excited to start in May. Have any of you purchased things that you will need? Or, are you waiting until orientation? It doesn't say anything about scrubs from my packet, is this something we will get information on at orientation? Also, wanted to purchase my books, but this also was not in my packet? Let me know if you received this information after signing your letter of intent.

I'm excited to meet you all and if you are from out of state, use me for an in-state resource. I am willing to help out in anyway that I can.

Just beware they are very unorganized!! Keep any and all correspondence with the school and instructors.

I haven't received anything about where or when to purchase scrubs etc....I have been talking to ------------- quite a bit and she has been a huge help. Do you live in flagstaff?

Hi David, I live about 45 minutes away from Flag, so I will commute. I enrolled in my classes yesterday with -------- and was cleared for everything(immunizations, fingerprint card, etc...). If you get everything finished quickly, you will get to pick your clinical days. ------------ enrolled me for Monday, Tuesday(class) and Wednesday, Thursday(clinicals). From what I understand, our first clinicals will be on campus in the lab. I did find out that you will need to purchase your scrubs through the NAU bookstore. Also, they should have a book list by April 1st. I'd like to find my books used if at all possible...so the sooner the better.

BTW- Have you been able to figure out a complete cost for the program?

Have you found a place to live? Can't wait to meet all my fellow classmates, seems like we will be having a crazy, busy year together.

Hi there, I just got a call yesterday that I have been accepted into the Accerlerated Nursing program. I am from CA, but went to ASU for my first degree which I graduated in May. I am still living in Scottsdale and am not familiar with Flagstaff at all. I don't have any of my vaccines yet, shoot! I don't want to get stuck with bad days for class, but I work 7-530 everyday at a hospital in Mesa. I haven't had the chance to even look for a place to live, but since it is such a short amount of time I was hoping maybe a furnished place so I don't have to transfer all my stuff back out here since I just did it 6 months ago. Any advice for anything so far?

Can I ask yall about the KAPLAN exam? Im curious what material you used to study.

tzacks: Congrats on your acceptance to NAU!! I applied to the program as well but haven't received a call... yet. If you don't mind me asking, what was your pre-req GPA and kaplan score? I applied with a pre-req GPA of 4.0 and kaplan of 87. I hope to hear from them soon!!

rohrer88: I bought the kaplan nursing entrance exam book, but found that it was pretty limited in what it could offer. The exam is 4 parts: Reading Comprehension, Math, Grammar, and Science. For the RC section, the Kaplan book was a pretty good representation of what you'll see on the exam. The math is ALL decimals, fractions, and percentages. If you know how to add/subtract/multiply/divide fractions, you'll be able to answer the majority of the math problems fairly easily. The grammar section was tough. If I were you, studying from an old SAT book would probably be your best bet. Knowing which sentences are repetitive, which contain incorrect verbs, etc.. As far as Science, the questions are pretty specific. It's all based off A&P. There aren't any biology, chemistry, or physics questions... at least not on my exam. Hope that helps. Good Luck!!
