MTSU Nursing Program Interview Help

Published

Hello all! I am a sophomore at MTSU and I just applied for their nursing program. I have a 3.9 GPA (All A's up until last semester when I was ONE point away from an A in English!) I have an A in A&P 1 and I am currently enrolled in A&P2. (I'll take Micro in the summer if I get in) and I made an 84 on the HESI (I would've liked a better score but I struggled with some stuff in the A&P section because I hadn't taken A&P2 yet I had to teach myself a lot of things)but I was wondering if anyone here had any tips about the interview. They haven't started setting up interviews yet but I want to be fully prepared. For any current MTSU nursing students/alumni I would really appreciate it if you could give me an idea of what kind of questions they might ask. Also I'd love to know more about what I need to do before I start the actual program (If I'm accepted) such as the nursing physical, drug testing, TB test, Flu shot. I'm just trying to get a plan together for when and where I get all of these tests done before I start the nursing program! Also when do you start clinicals? Is it immediately when you start the program or a semester or two after you get accepted? Also do you think I stand a chance at getting in? I know that I can get the 10 panel drug test in health services, I've been prescribed adderall for ADHD since I was a kid, will it count against me as amphetamines even though I have a legitimate prescription? Thanks!

Hi everyone. I applied for Fall 2014 as well and am so anxious to hear back about an interview, especially since I currently live out-of-state and being able to plan a little further in advance to book a flight would have been great. Glad to hear that nobody has heard anything yet! Looking forward to meeting more people that might be in my class if I get accepted.

Clinical's start the 2nd semester in the program.

Interview questions I had a few years ago (the few that I still remember):

What is your greatest strength/weakness?

Why should we choose you?

Your info packet will have all the info in it you will need if you are accepted. However, if accepted you will need to show proof of Tdap vaccination, varicalla vaccine or titer drawn to prove immunity, Hep B vaccination or titer to prove immunity, current CPR for healthcare providers certification through American Heart Association, the flu vaccination is only required for clinicals so you will not have to have it 1st semester, Neg Tb skin test, and I'm sure there are a few other things but that's all I can remember.

I think you have an excellent chance of getting in. Your GPA is excellent and HESI score is pretty good. If you get an interview just don't say you want to get into the nursing program because you want to be a doctor or PA one day (they don't like that at all since those careers arn't nursing). However, if your goal is to become an NP or any nurse related career tell them about it. :)

I don't think Adderall will count against you but I'm really not sure.

Thanks for the advice!!

Has anyone gotten a call for their interview yet?

My interview is tomorrow! I'm so nervous!!

Seriously? Congrats! Man, I wonder why I haven't heard back yet. I am nervous now. When did you get your call and what are your GPA and HESI score if you don't mind me asking? I'm just nervous because I turned everything in last month, but I wonder if since I am technically out-of-state at the moment that is why it is taking longer.
