moving to UT, maybe

hi everyone!

my wife wants to move back to ut, i will graduate rn school in may '10. i have been reading some of the threads, it seems that is not easy to find a new graduate job, and i have two babies and a wife to support. my loving wife wants to go back to provo-salt lake area; can anyone tell me if there are enough hospital jobs out there for new rns? and can a man support his family in ut as a nurse?..... i would love to make my beautiful wife happy and bring her back home, i would just like some reassurance, and i did not go through 4 years of school to continue to struggle financially....

Hi there. I am a nursing student in Utah rather then a practicing nurse, but I can give you some reassurances in regards to moving to Utah as a new graduate nurse. There are several large healthcare employers in Utah that offer New graduate opportunities. Intermountain Healthcare for instances offers New Graduate Opportunities very frequently at a reasonable rate of pay. (Certainly enough to meet the cost of living here in Utah) Hiring opportunities are by no means sporifice even with the worsening economy.

I would beg to differ. The median home price is well over 200K, starting nursing wages are under $22/hr, and if you look at IHC's website or U of U neither is doing much hiring. You could try IASIS or mountainstar. Similar pay I am sure. I would look elsewhere especially if you have loans to pay off. There are many people who love Utah and are willing to pay a lot and and accept low wages in order to be near mommy and daddy. If you can budget on $22/hr you will be OK, but be careful or you will end up in the In-Laws basement.
