Moving to Springfield, VA

I am moving to the Springfield, VA area and am wanting to know what are the best hospitals to work at? My background is cardiovascular pcu but am looking for critical care. Anyone have recommendation on ft Belvoir? My husband is military. Is Georgetown too far of a drive? How is the inova system? Thanks in advance!

I am not certain about the hospital systems, but I grew up in Alexandria. Georgetown would be quite a drive from Fort Belvoir, but not so bad from Springfield. Hope you enjoy your new home. I miss NO. VA terribly.

I grew up in Northern Virginia and I've spent time volunteering, shadowing, and clinical time in many of the hospitals in Northern VA and DC. I also worked at Inova Fairfax Hospital for about 4 years prior to me getting my BSN last year. Inova Fairfax is an amazing hospital with such great staff on many of the units. I've spent a lot of time on different units aside from working there and I absolutely loved the people I came across there. There was so much diversity, brilliance, and acceptance and it made working there so pleasant which to me, means a lot. The commute was the only downfall but I was living about 40 minutes away at the time and I think Springfield would be a better commute to the hospital. Of course, anywhere you live at in Northern VA, you need to set a really good amount of time for yourself to get to work on time.

GW/GT are great hospitals too with superb staff along with Washington Hospital Center but keep in mind, the patient populations are different. Consider what populations you want to provide care for. Inova Fairfax has a significant amount of non-English speaking patients but they are very efficient with their translator devices and services.

Let me know if you have any other questions!
