Moving to Miami??

I am 20 years old, and going to graduate from an RN associate program in May. I have lived in Johnson County (in kansas, which is close to the equivalent to Orange County, California) my entire life, and I am SO ready to live somewhere more....cultured. I love the ocean, and want to live somewhere that there is public transportation. I HATE cold weather.....so considering all these options, Miami seemed like the perfect place to live. But seeing as I have no family, friends or ever acquaintances in Miami, I was wondering, from a soical, climate, community and career perspectice, if Miami is all that I hope it will be to live ( i have been there 2 times on vacation and loved it) and what reputations the hospitals in the area have - especially in the preop, ER, or telemetry areas of the hospital ( i work on a tele floor now, and could see myself doing that, but i also want to be an anesthetist eventually) If anyone has any advice or info that would be helpful or informative, that would be great.

Thanks!

I dont see why not follow your dreams of 'miami living'!!

I know a woman whom I work with who moved to miami that has a similar story to yours-- but she is from tenessee.

She is very happy here, she lives near the hospital and works nights--

the living expenses are very pricey here, most of us live on two incomes. but when I see that co-worker of mine, it definitely seems possible as long as you have a good head on your shoulders, and never overspend you can definitely make it.

public transportation is so-so, I have not gone on it since I got my car back in 1999. the buses only go a certain time, the metro (train) the same thing--- so it's more convenient to have your own car.

jobs-- there are plenty of hospitals all over the place where they are hiring- and pretty much a new grad usually starts getting paid similar amounts everywhere.

good luck!!
