Moving from California.. help!

Hi there!

I'm moving from California to Virginia next year and have some questions about gaining an RN license.

First, how long would it take (approx.) to gain licensure in VA when transferring?

Secondly, if I were to live in VA and wanted to work in DC or Maryland, can I use the same license to do so? Or would I need to obtain separate licenses for all three (even though I may not be living there?)

I noticed many people commute from state to state to work, therefore, I'm inquiring about the second question.

Thanks for your help!

Virginia and Maryland are compact states, so if you get a multi-state Virginia nursing license, it should work in Virginia and Maryland. DC, however, would require another license unless you're working in a Federal facility (you can use any state license in a Federal facility, no matter the location - I work in an Army hospital in Georgia under my Virginia license).
