I'm going to Nassau Community College in Spring 2008 (RN program).
This could also be a survey-type question, but I was wondering: Which subjects were the toughest to study for (or most arduous) in nursing school?
In particular, how tough is anatomy & physiology I & II? How tough is medical microbiology vs integrated basic science? For instance, is there a lot of complicated math? I'm wondering if I should buy additional, supplementary texts to prepare myself for these core requirements.
Please offer explanations when you can. Thanks in advance.

The A&P 1 and 2 is not bad. The great thing is that many bookstores like Barnes and Noble offer SO many study guides for A&P that really break it down for you. The math is very basic. It's the nursing courses themselves that are the toughies!

i found A&P to be pretty easy (well, maybe i wouldnt have said that a couple of years ago, but after taking nursing courses- everything else seems like a breeze). It was just ALOT of memorization. That's it. Just keep repeating it over and over again.... write down the names for things repeatedly (like you had to do in elementary school when you learned a new word), and you'll be fine. There's no tricks to it, and you have everything on your body, so its almost like cheating in a way lol
i loved Micro also-and, again, its alot of memorization.
There's not much math in those, but when you get to nursing school, there's some key concepts that you NEED to know. We have a math test the 2nd week back of every semester. If you fail it, you fail out of the program. Failing is anything less than a 90 (on the math test)... and since it's only 10 questions, you can only get 1 wrong. Its not calculus or anything like that, but you do need to 'get it'.

I love Medical Micro but I would definitely suggest getting your pre-reqs and co-reqs done BEFORE taking the nursing classes if possible. I took A&P 2 with NUR 101 and am now finishing Micro with NUR 105.. it's been a long and arduous haul but I know next semester at least I won't be weighed down with so much heavy science.
