Hello! I am currently a junior in college and I am wondering about ABSN programs. I started out as premed but after much soul searching decided the lifestyle, mentality, and level of patient interaction involved in nursing was a much better fit for me. Unfortunately my school does not have a nursing program, and by the time I could transfer to a four year school it would make more sense for my to apply to accelerated programs. I'm looking for more info on them and wanted to know if anyone has experience with particular programs. I live in New York so SUNY schools are of particular interest to me just because it would be cheaper. I've looked at Stony Brook and Binghamton and will hopefully be able to visit during info sessions this year. Is anyone else applying to/in one of these programs? Are there any others you would recommend I look into?
Also I am wondering about pre-reqs. My school only offers one semester of A&P and every program I have looked at requires two. Will it be okay for me to take A&P over the summer at my local community college? I know for pre-med taking pre-reqs over the summer was a huge no-no because it didn't show you could balance hard science classes with your other course work. Is nursing the same way? I could potentially take it during the school year but it would be very difficult to commute to my CC and take it in addition to my regular class load.
