MHCC Applicants, any tips?

Has anyone applied to MHCC's nursing program before? This is my first year applying. I wonder when we will be notified if we have been invited to an interview or not?

Has anyone been on the interview before? Or any nursing school interview for that matter? What questions can we expect to be asked? I see there is an essay portion, I wonder what that will be about. Also, they say that basic computer skills will be tested during the interview...does anyone have any clue how they will assess that?

I'm so impatient about this...and quite frankly a little obsessed!

It takes forever to get a reply. They have to go through all the applicants to see who has the highest number of points. Nobody is supposed to know what the questions they will ask you are so everyone has the same opportunity. They want to see how you respond in a stressful situation. MHCC's program is VERY difficult from what I hear. Not necessarily to get into but the material. They do pathophysiology online now. You teach yourself. I know 4 people who are in the program 1st and 2nd year. Good luck. Also my friend who is very smart and a strait A student is not pulling all A's in nursing school so dont expect that. Just try to get thru it.

I'd say MHCC is pretty difficult to get into. A 4.0 gpa will not guarantee that one will have enough points even to make it to an interview. With points being given for a prior degree and CNA experience it makes it pretty competitive. Good luck.

I just graduated from MHCC's nursing program. I got in first try with a 4.13 GPA (Lane CC gave 4.3 for A+) but no CNA experience or prior degrees, so it's possible. I wasn't even on the alternate list. As far as difficulty, it wasn't too bad. Only got one B throughout the program. Just stay laid back, be ready for last minute changes, and be a self-motivated learner. It was a good program, lots of hands-on experience, and very supportive faculty.

For the interview, we had to answer 5 or 6 short essay questions. Stuff like why do you want to be a nurse, tell about a time you demonstrated work ethic, what are your strengths. Then the interviewer randomly picked one that we had to present in front of the rest of the interviewees. The computer skill was saving a document and attaching it to an email to send to the school. Because the program is hybrid, they want to make sure your comfortable with that kind of thing.

Good luck with getting in! I hope you make it, and hopefully when you graduate it will be easier to find a job.
