Methotrexate for Ectopics

Hope someone can shed some light on this. I was given a shot of meth for an ectopic pregnancy, my OB suggested 6 months, but all the literature I've read says 3 months to wait to try to get pregnant again.

What are your patients being told and why?

confused...

Hey there, and welcome to the site. Let me say, I am so sorry for your loss.

As to the answer, well, requirements vary. You need to discuss the specifics of your OB's requirements really, with him or her. This question really constitutes seeking medical advice and that is something we are not allowed to do here at allnurses.com.

Now, anecdotally, I can tell you, from having had two ectopics treated this way myself, I was not allowed to try again until my serial beta hcg reading was less than 5 and I was cleared by the OB. This can take longer than 3 months in some cases.

Please ask your OB if you have doubts, or get a 2nd opinion. I am sorry for your loss. Having been there, I know the confusion, pain and fright you feel at such an experience, and I completely empathize. Good luck in your future attempts to have a baby. I hope you do someday realize that dream for yourself.
