  1. Hello everyone, Well, I start my new job tomorrow. I will be working on the ortho/neuro floor. YAH! I am excited to start this new journey in my nursing career! I was working on the nicu floor as my first RN job for about 3 months. I felt that nicu wasn't the place for me at this time in my nursing career. Especially being a new RN. I had two preceptors and both of them seemed to be okay, but they kept saying "your lacking your critical thinking skills" I really felt bummed about all of this, but the hospital said they could transfer me into a different unit if I would like to. I took the opportunity and sucked it up and took the ortho/neuro floor. I am hoping and praying that my preceptor is kind, patient, and will work with me. This is all new to me. I may just enjoy the ortho/neuro floor and not even think back about the nicu floor. Sorry, still kindof upset about all of this. thanks for listening :)! Jewls67
  2. Thanks everyone! Today was a great day a long 12 hour day, but great day! I have a great preceptor that is patient with me, thank goodness! I feel that it is a calling in my heart, through my prayers :) I know that I will have to face difficult situations here and there in the nicu, that is when I need to take a deep breath and tell myself that I can do this and this is where God wants me to be :)! I have 6 weeks of orentation, which I can't learn everything, but hopefully I will get the groove down of time management skills, assessments, etc. Thanks everyone for your posts and comments! You all are great! Jewls67
  3. Hello everyone! So, I started my new Nicu nursing job last week. Well, it was hospital orentation, so I haven't actually started on the floor just yet. I also did my nursing orentation too last week, which went really great! My nursing educator on the Nicu floor told me that some new nurses start working on the nicu floor and end up not liking it. I thought to myself that is not going to be! This has always been a dream for me! I have researched so many videos on the youtube and nicu interests me! So, that kindof bothered me when she said that to me I felt as though it was a bit discouraging towards me or something Neways I start working on the floor with my preceptor this monday :) I have already met my preceptor and she is very friendly! Please I ask everyone to say a little prayer that the nursing educator, my preceptor and everyone on the floor be patient with me as I am a new nurse to the nicu! Please also pray that I do well too :) Thanks everyone here on allnurses.com for being so supportive too! You all are great! Thanks! Jewls67
  4. Hello, I am starting my first RN job next monday. It is in the NICU level 3. I am sooo excited, and nervous too! Does anyone have any advice on what type of book I could get to help me before I start nicu orentation? Thanks so much! goodluck to everyone on here starting a new job too :) Jewls67
  5. Hello NeoNurseTX, Are you still a Nicu Nurse? I did some shadowing with an interview in the nicu and I loved it! They called me today and said they are doing background check and references for me.. I hope I get it :) I was going to ask you, is there anytype of books that I can buy online that can help me get preprepared before starting this nicu job? I like to be fully prepared, lol, I am silly, but it makes me have less anxiety if I know before hand what I do need to know :)! Thanks! God bless! Jewls67
  6. Hello, are you still at ouchildrens hospital in the nicu? I applied and will be having interview soon. I am really excited about it, do you like it there if you are still there? How is the ou childrens hospital? Turnover rate low? Thanks!
  7. What does NI, stand for? Is it neonatal intensive? sorry. That is cool! I have an interview with childrens center next week for the nicu position. I am sooo excited and kindof nervous! I am really wanting this job. They know from what I told them on the phone that I don't have any nicu experience and I am a new Grad RN, so hopefully they will give me a good orentation :) I hope they like me and that I get it :)!
  8. Hello, Do you still work at OU medical center? I applied for their NICU position, I was wondering if you knew of any nurses that work for the nicu and how they like it there? Thanks!
  9. Hello everyone, I really need some advice. I recently passed my RN boards and had an interview with the nicu position here in town. I also will have an interview with another hospital for the newborn nursery level II. I have never worked in a hospital and have no nursing experience. I don't know if I should take the nicu position, which is more than likely going to be offered to me ( I have a second interview with them), or should I start out small and start in the newborn nursery at another hospital?I really want the nicu job, but when I think about it, I get anxiety. Is this normal? But then when I think about the newborn nursery I am thinking do I really need to start out there before nicu?? Oh decisions, decisions, lol!! Please any thoughts or comments appreciated :)! Thanks!
  10. Rita1015, I know that you can pass this test, you just need to take a couple of days off and relax. Give yourself some time. Regroup and make a schedule out that gives yourself some time to restudy and to pass this test :) You can do this! I promise! I didn't pass the first time, but I did the second time. If anyone has test anxiety let it be me, I sweat during tests and freak out, lol... Oh, and pray during the test too :)! This helped ALOT!!! Now, please let me tell you what I studied and maybe this will help you. I did the hurst review online and watched all of her videos three times. My problem was the core content on the first try of the nclex. That is why I didn't pass. I also did the Lacharity prioritization book. Let me tell you, you NEED this book! Most of the questions on the nclex are similar to these questions. It helps you decide who to see first, who to delegate too,and which person can be discharged home. You can buy it on amazon.com for $20 too :) Also, kaplan does help. I think kaplan helps to figure out how to read the question and pick the right answer. I did kaplan qbanks that my friend let me borrow. Yes, it helped, but what really, really, really, REALLY helped was the lacharity book and the hurst review videos :) I hope this helps you out. Please don't ever lose hope. You made it through nursing school and you shall too pass the Nclex RN! Can you retake it in 45 days? God bless you! Jewls67

  12. Thank you everyone!!!:clpty: Now its time to celebrate, I usually don't drink but I may just have a glass a wine or two, lol!!! Also, @ "Its Impossible", I would say to you that the questions weren't took difficult. I would say know your content and you will be just fine, goodluck, you got this!!
  13. I passed my RN boards today! So excited! I would like to thank you for everyone's support on here, allnurses.com is great! If anyone out there is feeling like there is no hope, don't feel that way. Pray, study, know your content and relax and breath during the test, you can do this! I didn't pass my first time, but my second time I passed with 75 questions. My second time I used the hurst review videos, did the kaplan book, and kaplan qbanks questions. Goodluck and Godbless to any future nclex board takers!
  14. Congratulations Liayh24! You are an RN!!! Your story really inspires me too! Please everyone on allnurses.com say a prayer for me as I am taking the nclex RN the second time around, I will get this test and pass! God bless you all!
