Melanoma Question

How deep does melanoma have to be for metastasis to occur? (Yes, I am working on another lecture... and I can't seem to find the answer to this anywhere :o ).

Thank you for any help or insight you can offer on melanoma :kiss

Just looking at all of the literature that I have in my office this week, nothing is mentioned as to how deep a lesion a lesion has to be for it to spread. It is the most dangerous of all skin cancers. Risk of developing a melanoma can run in families. If there is a mutation in the CDKN2 gene on chromosome 9, this can show an increase in your chances of getting a melanoma. There is a protein called p16 that regulates cell division. If it is not working properly, the cell division cycle can behave out of control.

Hope that this helps. :balloons:
