Hey guys. Please help me solve the following problem:

A geriatric client receives 800 ml. of 10% Dextrose in 0.33 normal saline every eight hours. Approximately how many calories per day is the client receiving intravenously?

Please show all work and explain.

on this chart you will find that 1 liter (1000 ml) of 10% solution of dextrose contains 340 calories.

there are 24 hours in a day. (8 hours x 3 = 24 hours)

if the patient is getting 800 ml every 8 hours then in 24 hours the patient would be getting (800 ml) x (3) = 2400 ml

then, 2400 ml (total amount)/1000 ml (per liter) x 340 calories (per liter) =
816 calories
